Welcome to the Moel Famau Walking Marathon, also for 2027, incorporating a Half Marathon option. The magical distance of 26.2 miles on the region's most popular hill - and we want to provide an event that is achievable for all fit hill walkers. and explores every corner of this beautiful area. It also serves as a great opportunity to train and get some quality hill miles in your legs if you are preparing for your first Ultra distance event.

Make no mistake, this is a walking challenge - but a tough one! Every challenge should be hard to attain, but achievable - so please take care to choose your correct starting wave, and do the necassary preparation. For the Half Marathon, there is about 1000m of ascent, for the Marathon - you can more than double that! This is not just a long walk, it is an extremely hilly one!

The inaugral event in 2026 was guided - but from 2027, we change this to make the course fully marked, also providing Gpx files to help with naviagtion, a route map and guidance sheet, and live GPS tracking for safety and and for the benefit of your supporters!

The overall event cut off is 13 hours. The first starters shall depart at 6am, with cut off's at 11km, 22km and 33km (water and feed stations) to ensure that everyone is on track to finish in time.

Wave 1 departure (11-13 hours to complete) - 6am

Wave 2 departure (9-11 hours to complete) - 7am **ALL Half Marathon entrants shall start at this time.

Wave 3 departure (Under 9 hours to complete) - 8am

The above setup means that you control your own speed and can focus on yourself, without being a part of a wider group and relying on anyone else to keep up, or you feeling any pressure, to keep up! We will have our team of outdoor professionals out on the route to look after you, and we shall be monitoring you throughout via the live tracking link.

The route passes through the event HQ area at about halfway (21km), so you can access the toilet facilities, the event feed station and your spare provisions from the bag drop area. This will also be the finish for HALF MARATHON competitors. We will also set up a water station at 10km and 32km, so you'll get access to water approximately every 10km. We may increase this if weather conditions dictate. The 42.2km route has nearly 2000m of ascent, so it is definately hilly! PLEASE DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THIS CHALLENGE.

The day will have a proper 'event' feel with a start/finish line, lots going on at the HQ on the slopes of the mountain, and you'll be set off in your chosen time group (you'll get to choose a target time when registering) and will be welcomed back to your medal, certificate and big congratulations after completing your very hilly Moel Famau Marathon!

So why not set a great goal for Spring 2027, which will help keep you motivated to get out and exercise over the Winter months and help you start next year in a really positive way. Even if you know Moel Famau extremely well - we are confident that our route will take you places you haven't been to before.
